SUIDOOSTERFEES 2020 NOTICE
CORONA VIRUS: SUIDOOSTERFEES POSTPONED TO LATER IN 2020
Due to serious concerns regarding the Covid-19 pandemic (Corona virus), the management and board of the Suidoosterfees have decided to postpone the festival, originally scheduled to be held in Cape Town from 27 April to 3 May, to a later date in 2020. New dates will be announced as soon as a clearer understanding of the pandemic’s impact has been ascertained.
The decision was taken after thorough consideration and consultation with various stakeholders. “It is with regret that we have decided to postpone. We are determined to deal with this challenge in a creative, innovative and responsible manner and to make sure we still produce a festival of exceptional quality, accessible for all,” says Jana Hattingh, the festival’s chief executive.
Prof. Brian Figaji, chairperson of the Suidoosterfees said that the festival will carefully explore ways to support artists in order to help bridge the unforeseen delay.
Everybody involved with the festival, including artists, sponsors, members of the public who have already booked tickets, suppliers and other partners, will be informed about further developments as soon as possible. Currently, various possibilities are under consideration, but a final decision will be made in due course. Naturally, the financial ramifications of this decision are foremost in the minds of the board and festival management, and urgent consideration is given to establishing an interim phase.
Further announcements will be made on the festival’s website (www.suidoosterfees.co.za) and its social media platforms. The festival endeavours to keep all partners and stakeholders informed of developments as soon as practically possible
